What is atrophic vaginitis?
It isn't the microorganisms that always cause vaginitis. Many women get vaginitis because they are allergic to some chemicals and foreign substances. This is called atrophic vaginitis. For instance condoms can cause a latex allergy in some women. Some others can be allergic to the spermicidal present in birth control devices. Sometimes a decrease in hormones causes dryness in vagina, which can also lead to vaginitis. The symptoms of non-infectious vaginitis are the same as that of infectious vaginitis. Patients complain of pain, itching, burning and discharge. This kind of vaginitis is cured by applying estrogen cream or oral tablets that reduce the dryness and irritation in the vagina.
