What is Vaginitis?

In very simple words Vaginitis (short for vulvovaginitis) is a condition that affects the vagina, the female organ that connects her uterus to the genital area. Vaginitis is recognized by an infection or swelling of the vaginal area. During this infection a woman can notice an unusual discharge (that may smell at times) from the vagina that often causes itching and irritation. It is a very common condition in women; millions of women around the world seek treatment for vaginitis every year. There is every possibility that you may get this infection at least once in your lifetime. By itself vaginitis is rarely very serious, but it can cause extreme discomfort and irritation.
